How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Today Ive gotten 5 from 6 hens!!! super happy concidering they have only been with me for 2 days and they have given me a dozen eggs in 2 days, not bad.
I do have a question, maybe one of you may know.....
How can you tell which hens are the ones laying each day? now all mine lay the same color eggs (right now, new chickens arent old enough for laying yet) so that may not be easy to tell. But I was just wondering if there is a way to tell which ones lay without gaurding the hen house and watching each one go in to lay...

Well one way would be to get some food coloring of different colors giving each chicken their own color, then get a Q-Tip and put some food coloring on the end of the Q-Tip and dab the vent area and when the egg comes out it will mark the egg ...

Wow! Never would have thought of that.... I will have to see if I can give it a try. I didn't raise these chickens, so they are still warming up to me. But I'm winning their hearts over real quick. i can finally touch them, so once I can actually put a whole hand on one, I'll be sure to have to food colors ready! Thanks for the crazy but great idea!!

When it's dark I can pet my peafowl and guineas. When it is light there is no way!

I've noticed that too... At night they seem to be less edgy about things like that.
