Aronia- the simplest answer would be when they are ready. But there are some clues to look for, big bright red combs and wattles if they squat when you go to pet them, they lower their bodies to the ground and open their wings a little and if they sing the egg song which is something like bawk bawk begaw like on the Cadbury egg commercials!

I wondered about the squatting. I've had hens stop in front of me and squat.

4 again, we got our third Marans egg. She's been holding it in for a week, the color was a lot richer.

Shinshien youll probably have eggs in the next week or 2, maybe sooner. I didn't notice my BA doing the squatting thing until after she had already started to lay!

11/15!!!!! New daily record - DS had the count at 9, but when we went out to visit the chickens when I got home from work he realized he had missed two because Hazel is a bulldozer when she nests and she had buried two eggs from other hens under the hay during her time in the box.

3/6. Slow day

6 eggs from 9 hens.
Was able to move my Ameraucana/EE rooster over to the Cabana Coop with 5 girls of his own, and this time he stayed there! Last time he flew out and went back to his old coop at night. I think he has decided he likes his new digs, he has stayed in there for 3 nights & 4 days so far. I'm happier because now there isn't the constant conflict between the 2 roosters. Plus, he was/is my favorite and he was on the losing end of the conflict.
