How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

4 out of 4 today. Temps never got above zero today so I was quite surprised. I went out to the coop multiple times as I wanted to collect the eggs before they froze. 3 of the 4 girls clearly don't mind the cold as they proceeded to lay in the snow in random places in the yard and took naps all day. What made it more strange was the fact that they chose locations seperate from each other and in open areas of the yard. Not behind structures that would shield them from the -30 windchills but out in the open. I now don't worry about them as much in cold temperatures as they clearly have great body temps because when the girls got up from their naps and headed towards the coop, I noticed their warm bodies had melted the snow where they had been laying. It puts my mind at ease. Silly girls.

Once again I apologize for the cold snap that started here last week and has made it's way to the east coast.

However: I have to warn you that we are now getting VERY large amounts of snow and it is heading east. We got 10 inches so far and it's still snowing. Brace yourself Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana....here it comes....

We plowed snow for 6 hours today! 1/4 mile driveway plus a parking lot sized area in front of the house and paths to the chickens. We were using 2 ATV's with snow plows attached to the front.

I have 9 hens, 1 EE, 1 black crochin, 1 brahma, 1 califonia white, one RIR, 1 barred rock, 1silver laced wydotte and 2 golden Buffs all but the Buffs just reached laying age right before Christmas Buffs still have about 2 months to go. I get 2 to 5 eggs a day. This morning weather here in North Carolina was about 68 degrees at 11 am and I got 5 Eggs including 1 Jolly green Giant double yoker from my Easter Egger named Bunny!

And it gets worse. It is really dumping rain in the cascades. Over two inches in the last 24 hours. Now it is going to move east (I hope!) I'm not sure what is worse...perpetually frozen ground, or water everywhere. My chicks are starting to wish they were ducks.
