How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My girls molted in November and quit laying just when I needed those eggs for holiday baking but they just started laying again this week and I have got 2 to 4 eggs everyday this week for 4 chickens.....makes me so happy to go pick up warm chicken eggs LOL

6/7. 36 eggs for the week. Plenty for us!

18 from our 19 Gold Comets! The Gals are egg laying machines! Since Jan 1st we've gotten 167 eggs from them and we don't use a light or even a heater in the coop. I have on a few nights when it's been really cold, down in the mid-teens, take their waterer and fill it with near boiling water from the stove and set it up in the coop for the night. That kept the temp up in the high 30's or better through the night. I'm amazed. I've been waiting for them to seize up and quit laying like almost everyone else has been lamenting about but they've not. They just keep on laying. I think it's the breed. Check out MxPres' posts and you'll see he has Gold Comets from the same source as we got ours and he's getting the same kind of production. You can't beat them for egg production. Great hens!!!

You are right about the production reds being egg laying machines. My Red Stars are from Meyers through MPC. We have 5 and one EE. Since January 1st we are a few eggs short of 50. Averaging just shy of 5 eggs a day from 6 chickens. This does not include several soft shelled eggs. On top of this they will just be 23 weeks tomorrow we got our first egg at 17 weeks from the red stars and the first EE egg in week 20.

Today we were 6 for 6 for the second time since they started laying and get this I just found another soft shelled egg in the nest box.

15/19 today,I may try the hot water method Jim,sounds like a good idea,I am on a hilltop with nothing but one strand of barbed wire fence to break the wind from Grandfather mountain,My birds are well protected from the wind though the nights still get very cold,,,I don,t have heat for them yet but I am considering it,I have the heat lamps with the wire shield over the cover
