How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

4 from 6 so happy

I think that breeding Ameraucanas and Marans are a common way to make Olive Eggers. I've also seen Cream Legbars and Welsummers bred together. I'm no expert, but I'd guess an Ameraucana or Easter Egger (usually a pea comb) bred with some brown egg layer. My Olive Egger looks like a Blue Ameraucana. There are several colors of Ameraucanas, including black.

I looked at the ameraucana and black copper marans mix...yep, looks much like mine. I am waiting to see if my olive comb gets more bright red or stays that dark purple/black when she begins to lay. I like her ALL black look. Thanks for helping me

Oh, i wanted to add: her legs are very black, but the underneath/bottom of her feet are pink/skin color. Does that mean anything as far as breed or egg color? She does have a beard and ear muffs & no visible waddles. All my other EE's have greenish slate legs with greenish/yellow underneath/bottom of their feet.

Wow you all are getting a nice percentage! I got 4 today. I'm averaging 5/day out of 31 layers. I'm battling ~10 molting, 50% of the flock is 2 years old or older, sub-freezing temps (5 degrees this morning) and almost daily hawk attacks. Lost our roo 6 weeks ago to a very large hawk :( . The cards are stacked against us.

Hubby went out to the coop the other day and called out "Anyone not laying is an automatic candidate for the soup pot!". I scolded him for scaring them and ran out there to pet and kiss them. UGH! I'm my own worst enemy. I'm way to attached to our food.

Yes I'm getting excellent performance, but its because I have a red sex-links type of chicken, bred for high egg laying and they are in their prime at 9 months of age. GC

Yesterday and today - 13 eggs

Everyone has been successfully grounded by the wing clipping the other night...nest boxes are finally clean.

I may be finally able to get an accurate count on the girls...lol.!

I cleaned and redistributed the golf balls in the nest boxes which is showing good success. A few pullets are still laying in their own floor nest....but it shouldn't be long before everyone's on the same page.

I finally broke down and purchased a bag of oyster shells. A few of the pullet's eggs were too soft; they'd crack after only a hit or two and a couple have cracked when I dropped them. Alternatively...the few hen's eggs that have been laid could be registered as deadly weapons.

I'm anxious to see if the pullets eventually lay the eggs with the eggshell hardness of their mothers. I hope they do.

There must be a few pullets very close to laying, I've been tripped a few times by them squatting in front of me as I'm walking.

I accidently stepped on one of my little OEGBs today.

But not with full weight...she's ok.
