How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

16/21 - 39* and rain

been wet, the run is starting to get stinky.
I'm in the same boat. We've had so much rain here, every day for about 10 days. 1 coop/run has horrible drainage. It's an existing concrete slab we built the coop on, thinking that would be a good idea. Boy, were we wrong!!! There is some dirt under part of the coop, so they can dust bathe. b\But when it rains hard, like it has been, the concrete pad turns into a quagmire of muck

My hubby had me bring in about 8 bags of river rock, which helped some. At least the chickens aren't "wadding through mud & muck, but there is still standing water in some places, plus it stinks. I also think that the river rock probably isn't that good on the chicken's feet. Considered sand, but hubby thinks that would be a bad idea.

17/21 snowy day again
Did you end up getting your 1 to 3 inches of snow?

We had my dad's funeral today ( he passed on Feb. 15th, but Mom wanted to wait for friends & family to be able to come in town). The memorial service is tomorrow. He had been in the Air Force and served overseas during the Korean Conflict. We had the burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. I had never been to a funeral with military honors. They did a real nice job.

My niece decided to have everyone over to her house for dinner, so we stopped by our house long enough to let the dog out for a minute and then left again. We got back home around 9PM. I went out to lock up the chickens & collect eggs. I noticed right away that 1 broody was no longer on her nest

I looked around for her (I knew she had at least 1 chick hatch yesterday or was it the day before?) and found her outside of the coop. Apparently she took her 1 chick outside and then when the chick couldn't navigate back inside, she decided they would spend the night outside. I was able to pick her up and her chick and put them back in the coop. But then she couldn't decide if she wanted to be in the lower, floor level nest box with her chick or back in the original nest box with her other eggs ( which were all stone cold

) I went ahead and grabbed out all of the cold eggs and she decided the lower nest box with her chick was just fine.
I candled all the remaining eggs (8 of them). Of the 8 left, 3 were from the original 6 I had given her. they should have hatched last weekend, so I pulled them also. 1 was a clear, 1 had a very small, but feathered chick and the 3rd had a fully formed normal sized chick.
Of the remaining 5, they were all hen added, 1 of them was a clear. The rest all had something inside, but no movement. I really think they have all died from being too cold for too long, but I turned on the incubator and put them in any way. I'll check them again tomorrow when they are nice and warm and see if there is any movement/indications of life. If not, then I can always toss them out.

My other broody (she was actually the first broody, but the 2nd broody took over her nest) is still sitting on the 2nd nest. It's not due to hatch until the 12th. Actually pretty disappointed that only 1 hatched

Also, it appears that my oldest son (30) is back on heroin. All in all, a pretty stressful day. It was nice to see a lot of family I haven't seen in a while and my daughter came home from college Thursday night. She'll be here until Sunday afternoon. I always enjoy spending time with her.

12 eggs today.

We get lots of lots of shades of Reddish Brown. From a pale white-ish red brown to a dark deep rich brown. These are three days of our hen's bounty. I am trying to talk JoAnn into more hens- specifically Easter Eggers using the earlier post of rainbow of eggs, but the force is strong in her so far. Good news is that she has okayed installation of the new chicken treadmill, (just a horizontal bike wheel) and a Chicken party pinata pole for hanging veggie treats for the hens.
