How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Kids kids, just remember that we are smarter than them? We are not! do they pay rent? do they have food costs? do they have car insurance premiums? house payments? life insurance plans? so much more! all they do is eat, lay eggs, crap a lot and sometimes when we are lucky, coo on us .... mine do! ... best pets! take my point!!!

Are you close to all the rain? We had a couple weeks of rain here in southwest Florida, and most of my hens (and my friends' hens) slowed down considerably or stopped altogether. :(

It's really the amount of sunlight that affects how well a chicken lays. The says are getting shorter and that is what is affecting how well your hens are laying. Hens need 14 hours of "sunlight" a day to lay. Anything less than that and laying slows down. Molting also causes hens to slow down.

That's always what I've thought, but I've spoken to many chicken people here who are all shocked at how their chickens suddenly stopped laying with all the rain. Even our local 4H poultry specialists say our local hens seem to have been affected by the wet conditions. I think there's also been a proliferation of cocci and other bacteria/parasites. That may also explain it. Plus our hens often molt in September here in Florida. So that also explains things.
