How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My hens are laying all over the coop! I find some in the nesting box, some in the corner, and yesterday I was walking in the coop and I stepped on one laid right in the middle of the floor! Is it because they don't have enough nest box space? I have two boxes for thirteen laying hens. The other two boxes I took the divider out so it would be twice as big because my bantam needed a place to raise her chicks. Why are my chickens laying everywhere?

@Abriana my girls are doing the same and I have four boxes for five girls! One of my reds gets upset when someone is in HER box and she comes to tell me all about it. I usually find 3 eggs in the same box, whatever the favorite is that day.

One nest box for 4 hens is standard. If you have a high production hen, like a sex-links type, like my Golden Comets, that like to get their laying done before 9 a.m. You may have a waiting line. 20170730_061526.jpg . I have 2 boxes for 5 hens and I've seen a hen waiting for a nest many times. I recommend a box for every 2 sex-links.

Found another egg under roosts at 5 a.m. this morning, a brown egg, not white like yesterday.
It's a good thing I have a lot of straw under the roosts. 4/5 so far today.
Toesy went into a nest after morning snack, hopefully I'll find another when I let them out to forage this evening. GC

That's always what I've thought, but I've spoken to many chicken people here who are all shocked at how their chickens suddenly stopped laying with all the rain. Even our local 4H poultry specialists say our local hens seem to have been affected by the wet conditions. I think there's also been a proliferation of cocci and other bacteria/parasites. That may also explain it. Plus our hens often molt in September here in Florida. So that also explains things.
Mine are slow I have about 30 to 35 layers now, between some molting and what evers up I have been getting between 12 and 22

igorsMistress: "Is the inside of her eggs blue? Curious is all."

This is her first egg and it is still intact. I'll crack it open in the morning and let you know.
I'm kinda curious myself!.

Finally got a chance to eat some of these "Olive Egger" eggs. Peeled away the membrane inside and they are white inside. So we are getting light brown eggs from these two pullets and don't know for sure what they are.
