Rosie,Penny,Farria and muffin..good to have the pullets contribute now. How cold does it have to be before I worry about frozen eggs? 17-29 today.

as long as your able to pick them up within an hour or so of being layed you should not have to worry..
egg count was just 5 today one broke in the nest

At 29 they will last quite a while, they freeze at a lower temperature than water does. And if you have multiple hens laying in the same box each subsequent girl will warm up existing eggs a bit.
That said, if you go to work and come back 9 hours later, you could have frozen eggs.

I collect up to 5 times a day in below freezing temps.
I got my first cracked egg yesterday.

6 here already at 1:30 between the coops need to go out look at the silky room did get the metal we picked up on the tractor for them

Two today the faverolles Lulu and Bea the EE. Was suprised to see Bea laying she took a couple weeks off.

1 under the roost this morning, frozen and cracked. It was laid by my 5.5 Y/O Ancona. She's the one that laid really thin shelled eggs all last year. It doesn't look to be nearly as thin as those
