How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Time to add more layers or chicks, LOL. You know when I first thought of having chickens, I only want 2-3 and here I am with over 20 layers.

I have 2 pullets that are 17 weeks old. I'm guessing 3 more weeks and I should start having 6 layers. Once I finish a slightly bigger coop I'll be looking at more. Oh, and I started with 4 in November. By March I had 7 birds.

Good question! Like, REALLY good question!
We always check again before locking them in. 9pm last night there were no more eggs. Then this morning as I let them out I checked. Nope. Nothing. Then at work I get a text message pic from hubby! I'll have to put it in the next post.......

Ok.....2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, and 1, count them, 1 Easter Egger. WHAAAAT? All laid in the same favorite nest.
Someone's got some splainin to do!

Yup, heat index here were showing 104, that was miserable for my hens, specially for broodies. I 2x about the chicks raised by broodies, I never knew it’s that easy, a few of them are already roosting 3-4’ high with some older hens @almost 4 wks. Never happened with my brooder chicks (takes almost few months before they roost together). By the way thanks for mentioning Pendesenca last year, I got one and becoming one my fave hen aside from Black Copper Marans, but are they normally flightier chicken?

Yes, The Pendesenca is known as a flightier chicken. I only have 1 left myself. I was trying to breed them, but my incubator hatch rates dropped way off. Then a fox or something made off with the only Black Pendesenca rooster that I had, so I gave up on breeding them. I may try again in a year or 2.

Only 5 eggs today.

16 Eggs Today, came home from a party check my Chooks around 10:40 pm they were all panting like dogs, 96* F in he coop.

I've been running an oscillating fan in one of my coops, it keeps the temperatures down to about 83* F. But the chickens are still hot!!

So jealous, that was a lot of BCMS!!!

I had been trying for black copper marans for 3 years couldn't find one locally this year
member from my own state brings me eggs from Eastern side of the state.. also bought 5 from a local source..... My first hatch of eggs went awful one live peep in the end member send 12 more this time my silky all broody 4 of them I have 4 of left of the 12 will look this morning to see if they have hatched

Nice! I have two 3 yr olds, 3 two year olds, and one pricey one year old French Black Copper Marans, that mothered 6 cockerels (I had to give away) hoping the 3 new hatched are pullets and 6 to hatch in couple of weeks.

think final count is 1 passed out of the shell little left on it but still curled and two duds 9 live peeping the girls are out of the corner peeps abound the girls showing them food put a dish of water not deep enough to drown but get a little drink
only 6 from the main coop but everyone seems to be staying in the coop since crazy white dog got in
