Silly Poule, you live in FRANCE! Of course all the desert choices sounded yum.
:lauoh yeah silly me :lau
Had dinner in a restaurant in Paris MANY years ago. Desert included in the price of dinner. When the waiter brought the desert cart by .... oh my they all looked good. I chose something. He asked "what else?" Two? well OK, I chose a second one. He asked "what else?" OK, I'm feeling a bit gluttonous but chose the pear tart. He asked "what else?" :thNo more, I was feeling WAY greedy and guilty for being so already. That pear tart was :drool :drool :drool
wow that is pretty impressive to have as many as you want included :lau:lauHubby started off saying he was too full for dessert so I said great I'll have the cheese platter (they just bring you a plate and a huge platter of cheese and you choose what you want - I had that instead of dessert last time) and the cake if you are too full. Sadly when they told us todays freshly made options he cracked- and finished off my cake too :lau:lau I do love French set menus - especially at lunch they are such good value - they tend to be kind of limited in price by what employees get for thier 'cheque restaurant' provided by quite a lot of employers here on top of thier wages. So you may have a 4 ish course meal, with wine for under €15 where the same food would cost considerably more at dinner!

Not got any eggs yet but freezing and gorgeous frost - it is my birthday so I'm just thrilled to have a lovely sunny, cold crisp day! We are going to head out to lunch child free so looking forward to that! Your warmer weather must be heading across the oceans - I've just looked and our temps are due to go right up (17c next week!).

Happy Birthday !!! B Day 5.jpg
We woke up to our first dusting of snow for the year everything here is crippled
we are fortunate no need to leave our home always been this way any dusting people become brainless first 24 to 48 hours schools are closed business's are closed

That is a superb deal! Guess I haven't checked lately, the Euro to USD rate is way down from when I last knew what it was. That €15 is only USD 17.15! And with that much food for lunch you don't need to eat again until the next day.

What people may not realize is that cheese and fruit is a much more normal desert in France than the fancy things we all think of. I guess those are mostly eaten when out to eat or special occasions than what people usually eat at home.

Ours was only €13.50! You pay a bit more in towns (but generally can get something around the €15 mark) for your lunch menu but yes astounding value, in Oz you'd probably get just a simple cafe meal for that, 1 course no drinks! I understand eating is pretty cheap in the US though isnt' it?

Absolutley, they are far more likely to have just a little cheese and a bit of fruit, as you say it is for weekend meals / eating out / entertaining that they eat the lovely tarts and things.
Happy Birthday !!!
Thanks Penny and yay for some snow! After my lovely morning it is teaming with rain out there (and we still need to go outside to get into our bathroom :he:barnie

That is awful girl no indoor où sont les toilettes :lau
I know :lau - the people who started the renovations did some really odd things in this old barn! We have plans for an indoor bathroom (or 2!) but it is no hassle in the warmer months and then other things like insulation / double glazing / new woodburners have seemed to have got in the way every time we've gone to do it in prewinter preps. Doesn't help that it isn't a simple 'add bathroom' we need to do quite a lot of work in what is currently one huge room to split it, treat it for woodworm, add insulation and plasterboard, and render in order to move the little one out of our room and into the other side with his brother in the other room. Then we need to split our room (it is a weird 2 level room, one level where R sleeps which will be the family bathroom!) as well as make a hole in a huge thick stone wall to run the pipes, move electricity and the washing machine (probably live without for a week or so) etc etc etc! On top we urgently need to get our holiday cottage sorted so we have some income so when we were about to launch into doing it around Christmas I was like 'wait we have lived 3 winters with it lets just get the gite (holiday cottage) done'! With all the rain I'm really regretting it but it is only a few steps out the back door and it is actually an OK bathroom (not my taste but OK!). i think foot will be firmly planted before next winter however! My poor boy is 4 and still having his bath in our (thankfully large!) kitchen sink - he doesn't care but I do! And hubby with his new diagnosed fibromyalgia also could really do with a bath - apparently hot baths with epsom salts are very helpful on those bad days! Sorry that was such a long reply!!!
