How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

That is so good - mine are all 8-9 months and still not all laying! I'm not quite sure who is and isn't though. I'll report back later in the day when I have checked.

Thank you!
In fairness to your girls, I live in Florida, USA, so my girls are enjoying 80F days, 60-65F nights, and almost 12 hours of sunlight per day. And the majority of them are hybrid types, bred to mature early.

It sounds like your girls are figuring it out! That's eggciting, lol. Good luck!

I got 8 yesterday (from a potential 14 - or 12 if you don't count the silkies how only seem to lay to prepare themselves for going broody for a couple of weeks!) - record so I think some of the young girls are starting up.

Didn’t our pullets hatched at almost the same time last year? Ours are laying not sure whose who but the 7 month olds I think are also laying. Could be the difference of American breeds or Europeans? Just curious to know. Majority of my new layers are Black Copper Marans, I thought they all originated from France :old, or it could be me ignorance lol.

I think at least one lot did. I had 3 hatches, the early May Araucana started laying 05 October then stopped over winter for a couple of months! The 2nd lot were 31 May and then the Marans and Vorewerks were born 21 June.

Yep my Marans have been laying since January I think (I think around the same time as yours maybe?) and yes they certainly are a French breed . It is some of the others that can't have started as I'm only getting a max of 8 eggs from 14 (oops make that 13 just recounted - I must have forgotten to take off the Australorp we lost) hens / pullets. I'm pretty sure the Faverolles is laying, not sure about the 2 Orpington ( end of May hatch -I have read they can come late to the party though) or the 2 Vorwerks (end of June hatch). I don't know  maybe they are all laying - I know the silkies aren't (I've moved them into thier own pen as they were too scared with the roos I think) so that only leaves 11 with my recount so a max 8 could suggest that they are all laying and they just havent' had a day where they all lay

Not quite that warm here in south west France (although last week we had up to 25c :eek:) and not quite at 12 hours yet (maybe 11?) but yes all my girls this time are heritage breeds and I know at least Orpingtons are notoriously late layers!

Time to sit out there with a cookbook and read them recipes that include chicken ;)

In my personal experience (with a mixed flock, many of which are not known "Excellent" layers), it is very rare to get an egg from every hen in the flock on a given day. I would think it more likely only if the hens in your flock are all "Excellent" layer breeds.

Ahhh yes I perhaps need to change my 'expectations' as my first 3 girls that have been my only layers since they started last spring (other than sporadic Silkie laying) are a Harco (black copper hybrid layer) and a Lohmann Brown (hybrid layer) and my Sussex - I had lots and lots of 3 egg days from them so kind of have been used to that! But you are right - I now have heritage breeds and they aren't going to be the same (but wowo - so impressed with the Marans - have 1 or 2 of thiers every day!).
Another 7 day :D

6 today. Had to go back out after dinner for the last one. Betty was in her nest under the ladder in the "feed room" when I went to close up around 4:45. She took some scratch from me then came out so see what other scratch she could fight over with the other hens in the alley.
