Any late layers got blocked.

That can be problematic, they will find somewhere else to lay and may stick with that spot even when the nests are open.

How are the roomies doing being roomies? I just had 2 at once and the older experienced broody hen was not taking kindly to having a Roomate. At all. Luckily her last day of broody was the first day for the other hen so no more overlap. I can’t imagine the carnage if I had put them together in a relatively small coop!

They are OK, the box is 18"x18"x48". At one point I started to make it divided, it has two doors but no middle divider. Was trying to figure out how to get food and water in 1 location available to both but got sidetracked.

I know and it’s an issue. Today I’m taking a different approach- and actually I’m hoping she’s done being broody anyway. She stayed out of the box for quite awhile before getting super determined to go in.

Providing food and water to separated hens is my biggest challenge. And it’s so HOT too. I try to hit all the suggested things to do to break a broody but I can’t - I have no area that meets all the suggestions that wouldn’t scare me to leave them in when it’s so hot. So I decided to block the nest boxes in the late afternoon and try that. I agree with you - not a great idea as I know they lay all day long. Today I’ll try something else.

Oh and I actually got 9 eggs yesterday. Still a low count day.

It is really hard to break them in the heat. The whole idea behind the buster is it keeps them from staying warm underneath. They can do that easily even elevated on hardware cloth when the ambient temp is 100°.

A large wire dog crate look on craigs list they can have water not allot please hang it from tree or what ever

11 eggs today. I’m ok with it.

I don’t have any trees in the area. Merry was still broody but definitely less so. One more day

Ruby who was broody just 2 days ago went into the nest box but then came out on her own. Lily’s good to go, just needs the week or so to resume laying. Everyone else is the same.

Only 7 eggs today. The broody hen is down to 4 eggs. She started with 11, none have hatched. Not really holding out any hope for the last 4, but time will tell.
Super hot here today too. Mainly because there is absolutely NO movement in the air. So the heat just sits there on you.

Me had 7 here too from my main coop oddly enough there was one in silky maybe Mud was just lonely there was an egg

We got two today, out of the three or four that have started laying, but they were both in a new nest box!
