chickens are fun huh

I have one broody that is "supposed to" hatch chicks on Sunday. I'm not sure if any will hatch or not. I believe she has hatched chicks for me before and did a good job, so hopefully, all will be well this time too. She was sitting on 11 eggs but the other day I noticed that she is down to 8 eggs.

7 yesterday. 2 girls went broody Thursday and are now roomies in the buster. They are not happy. One of them laid an egg this morning. Must be the last one she was planning to lay before starting the egg (not) hatching.

Someone new is laying! We got three today! I know one is a porcelain d'Uccle and one is the white frizzle bantam Cochin, but now I have a mystery to solve!

Poor lay day today. Only 8!
3 broodies, 2 with some other issue that haven’t been laying for awhile and the rest were slackers - lol! Hot and humid and no breeze for most of the day didn’t help. I also blocked off the nest boxes in the late afternoon so the broodies could mingle with the flock. Any late layers got blocked.

Lily is however off being broody and Ruby is almost done being broody. Merry is still full on.

One of the leghorn eggs today was super weak shelled. I’m going to start tomorrow mixing their FF separate only using the layer crumbles.

How are the roomies doing being roomies? I just had 2 at once and the older experienced broody hen was not taking kindly to having a Roomate. At all. Luckily her last day of broody was the first day for the other hen so no more overlap. I can’t imagine the carnage if I had put them together in a relatively small coop!

Okay had good day 7 Mud joined the others in silky so no silky eggs

I got 14 again. There are 30 birds BUT....
2 are to young yet, 1 is being a mom, 3 are broody, 1 just finished being broody, 4 are more are over 5 years old. I will call that a solid win!

14 out of 20 active layers is indeed a solid win! Good for you!
