LOL, I have no idea! Tonight a different hen from the other coop decided to sleep up on the telephone/electric wires coming into our house (roof level height). I guess she thinks she is one of the turkeys! The turkeys sleep up at this same height, except they are in the trees not on the cable/telephone/electric wires!

Only 11 eggs today.

3 eggs today! The pullets did a good job today so I took them out to forage a little. The EE Sophia is so timid though, she came right out the gate with the rest, walked about 15 feet then turned around and ran back in the gate, around the coop to the center of the compound. Well at least there is one that isn't likely to run away!

I have a Sophia pullet too but she is a Columbian Wyandotte. The EE pullets are Hera and Thea, DD1 always names the EEs after mythological goddesses.

@bruceha2000 This batch of pullets got high falutin’ names because they looked so elegant next to the dumpy Faverolles! Sophia Loren, Isabella Rossini for the leghorn and Coco Chanel for the Welsummer.

Do a float test on the hidden nest eggs. If they float they are bad, if they sink they are good.


Presumably. That plus moulting. Some are done but usually don't lay again until February, some are mid moult. The ones that are laying haven't yet moulted. Looking forward to the 8 pullets starting to lay! Likely another month.

Yes thanks, that’s what I did. All stayed perfectly on their sides on the bottom, so in to the fridge they went!

not even my silkie are layer the little are raising 3 blue marans had to get them far enough from the silkie not to pine for them picking up 5 speckled sussex on friday at day old was kinda counting on them to raise them
