How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

24 so far - including three duck eggs. There are also two active nests, which the ducks will - no doubt - abandon before they produce any offspring. We won't discuss just how many eggs sit in those two nests.

Whoa. How many hens do you have?

Would you believe "no idea"?? My flock is in my Sig, below. Of the ducks, there is one drake. Of the chickens, every one of the "breed" are hens over 1 year in age now. The mutts are more pullet than cockerel, because I've culled a number of cockerels for the table, but I've not done a boy/girl sorting recently. At a guess, I'm close to 50 pullets and hens, around a dozen cockerels. Soon to be a few less. Another culling for freezer camp in the next day or two.

Optimally, as soon as I recognize they are cockerels w/o the size, coloration, etc to bump one of my breeders off their perch. In theory? Between 14 and 20 weeks. Reality? Whenever I get around to it, I'll cull between two and four birds (freezer permitting), removing the traits I am least interested in continuing to play in the gene pool. I *should* be culling about three birds a week. I'm actually culling about three every 10 days, so the flock size isn't being reduced as rapidly as I'd like. My incubation is also on hold for now.
