We got 18 yesterday from our 19 GC's. I know they're going into molt but except for a couple of days it doesn't seem to have been affecting their laying. Oh well, just accept it and hope for the best. Last night we introduced our Alpha Hen, Maggie to the 11 new pullets and that was a hoot. We took Maggie and one of the other hens over to the old run where the newbies are and put them in. At first the youngsters came up real curious and were lightly pecking on her and she just stood there kind of dumbfounded. But in a few minutes she set about scratching for worms and bugs in the run and the more dominent youngsters came running up to her and bumping her with their chests. After a couple of times of that she said she'd had enough and laid them down and stomped on them until they all ended up over in one corner and she went about her scratching. Ever so often one of them would come up to see what she was doing and the next thing you'd know Maggie had her down and the youngster would be screaming for mercy. Well, we took the older Gals out after about 30 minutes and let them free-range with the others who I'd let out and the youngsters stood there like, 'What just happened?". They're going to get a lot more of it next week when we put them all together in the big run, you can bet on that!
