How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My birds amazed me with 9 eggs today! I even got a leghorn egg! Those are all over 6 years old now!

I am looking forward to seeing what shade of brown my Blue Copper Marans lay in another 8 weeks or so. They were early or mid September hatches.
My September hatches...also excitedly waiting the Marans & EEs. There are 20 of them, mixed flock..."someone" laid 3 small tan eggs today. ❤️

Mine chased a mouse to death...I had found it the day before, inside the coop hallway, loving a bale of straw, and chased her out when I swept the hall & moved the straw bale elsewhere. She really should not have been running around in their pen during the daylight hours...howbdid she even get into their pen? I chased her out the door, out to my yard. Well, she somehow squeezed into a pen & those mini dinosaurs made short work of her. Barely a mark on her, but there she lay, kinda exhausted "rough around the edges" worn out dead & now ignored by my crazy prehistoric minded flock. 🤪
One of my little girls got a baby mouse last fall while free ranging near the fence, she gobbled it up before i could get it from her. It was months ago, so she obviously survived the ordeal! Oh yea, she lays the biggest eggs of the 12. Surprised the heck out of us!

It's been a chaotic and wonderful Christmas with visiting family; my 3-year-old grandson loves the chickens and delights in picking lettuce & sorrel leaves to feed them through the fence. (First thing every morning after breakfast, he ran to the back door asking hopefully, "Feed the chickens?")

This visit I took him into the chicken yard twice to meet and pet the girls (and scatter some scratch, so he was instantly popular!), then we gathered eggs together. I don't think he really gets the connection that the chickens lay eggs (city apartment kid) but he was delighted with finding them in the nest boxes and carefully carrying some to the gate. (They flew home this morning, miss them already... 🤗 😢 )

The girls have been varying between 3 eggs some days to 6 eggs another, but most days we're getting 4 or 5: Martha's blue, one or two greens from the two Eggers and various browns from the other 5 pullets. Five today, as of 4pm!

I guess rodent is not a desired delicacy on their menu? 😆Their tastebuds Spoiled by live mealworms?
Perhaps they want you to skin & cook their rodents for them? 😁😜 Mine haven't caught any of the little gray/white bellied mice that run around our yard & get into the workshop storage boxes; maybe the mice have just gotten lucky, or I wasn't around to see the end results...

7 today! We are eating them as fast as they are laying them. 😂
I've been trying to do that myself, but with just me, and probably six eggs laid a day, I have to get creative sometimes to eat them all. LOL

I picked a bunch of carrots today, and I'm thinking about making some carrot custard tomorrow with eggs, carrots, condensed milk, brown sugar and spices.
