Imagine my surprise when this little chick popped up right in my face. The day is a French black Maran.

If the dad is a black Marans, then I’d guess you have a male black sexlink there. The mom must have been barred since he has that head spot, so it could be the broody Dominique, especially if he has a little rose comb.

Momma and baby are on starter ration and water I've already started to handle the chick, and it didn't seem to mind. Had it drinking water off of my fingertip. Very calm little bird.

I hope more eggs are fertile under the Dominique. This would make up for the losses I suffered in the spring

Funny/odd... This little one didn't fuss or panic when picked up or handled.

Momma was making little noises while I was handling the chick... telling it that I was part of the flock
