You might be right, your were pullets so it was kind of harder to connect. The production breed is just for laying egg to dead so the reproductive issues. I am quite new to raising chickens and I finding chickens to be a wonderful creature. This sure is the right place to be!
Personally, I don’t love ISA Browns, Rhode Island Reds, or Cinnamon Queens, for that reason (they don’t seem to be as healthy because they are bred solely for egg production). I’m glad that yours were friendly, because mine of that breed weren’t. I also didn’t get them until they were pullets, so that probably attributed to their nature as well.
I’m sorry that your living conditions are just difficult and wet for you!
I do agree that heritage breeds seem to be a little hardier. But then again, we’re all learning here (and that means me).
Thank you! I do have a rooster as well, but of course he doesn't lay eggs. What a wonderful flock! They must lay a lovely pastel rainbow of eggs for you.
You have so many long-lived birds! I hope my girls can make it to Hawk’s age. What a champ for laying so many eggs at 10 years old!
Yes, it is. Its called Flockstar. It used to be free, with some things to pay for. But now you have to pay for it, although you get all the perks that you had to pay for when it was free. I do love this app and highly recommend it! You can track hatches, track finances, track egg laying, and there is a spot for journaling as well. You can also have different flocks. Like I have chicken and duck flocks on there.Nice! Is this an app?
