How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2 dozen so far, but I see Mrs Little Chicken is sitting in a nest box and she likely has someone’s egg under her. It’s hilarious seeing that wee little OEGB bantam sitting on the regular hens’ eggs

Well Mrs LC was sitting on 2 regular sized eggs, and laid one of her own. So that makes 27 eggs today! That’s a record for me.

It’s always nice to see a Juin egg. She sits every day, but lays only once a week, which is fine with me.

14 today. I was able to hobble outside today, with my DH close by (I don't want to fall!), I gathered eggs and took pics of my week-old chicks. I'm betting the black one is a cockerel. He just has that vibe, y'know?

3 eggs yesterday.

Basil my Isa Brown hen is losing feather strangely, under her neck the feather only has the stick/bone part, no fluffy feather at all, and as I checked her, I found that she has that throughout her body. I can not see any lice/mite or eggs. She is not pecking at herself.

I gave her a bath, then put some Pestene insect powder on her as I did not know what else to do.

She does have a bit of scaly mites on her feet which I put Vaseline on.

I am somewhat unhappy seeing a shell less egg in my chicken coop this morning...grrrrr......what to do now?

3 of the hens are molting, so it is not them pooping that egg.

1 Isa Brown hen - Basil had a thin shell egg last week and I have been giving her Calcium Citrate+D tablet for 4/5 consecutive days now, her eggs was back to almost thick shell like before, but this morning just a membrane holding it....grrrrr

Basil is an Isa Brown and I know very well the reproductive ill health she inherited. I have been watching her with hawk eyes, and here it is the nightmare has finally arrived.

What is there to do, but continue with the calcium table...I checked the tablet has 333mg of calcium and she has 1.5 of it so it is ~450mg.

She gets 4ml of nutrients every week, and sardine 1 a week and 17% protein layer feed.

I had Isa Brown previously started the same and some eventually went down and some took many months until to reached that finally horrible end.

As the calcium tablet did not fix the soft shell egg, then it is reproductive issue.

Now I will increase to 2 tablets =660mg of calcium and pray my brain out.

13 eggs here today.

Somehow by magic or levitation, our two mama hens got themselves and babies out of their enclosure and in with "gen. pop" in the big run this morning. We absolutely cannot fathom how they managed that. Then when we opened the gate this afternoon to let everyone out to free range, they brought the bsbies out too. Shrug. They will either survive or not, I guess! It helps that there are two mamas riding herd on them. Good luck, ladies!

I use horse fly spray for lice and mites. Here it has permethrin in it which is good at treating those.

Not sure about your Pestene powder - I’ll have to look it up.
