How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Got 5 yesterday and 7 today. Also got the Missus a new countertop egg holder, beats a bowl.

That is pretty cute though I can see two potential problems for our house:

1. The Cubalaya eggs would probably fall right through
2. The 3 cats would LOVE that new toy

We got 19 eggs yesterday from 22 BSL's. Yeah, 22, we lost another hen yesterday. We lost one about a month ago but I can't see anything that's going around. I mean all the Gals have alert and seem to be healthy. I didn't see anything on her like an injury or any sign of sickness or parasites. At this point I just don't know. The coop and the run are kept clean and they have plenty of food and water. She looked to be in excellent shape except that she was dead. I found her laying out in the run when I got home from work. It's been windy for the past few days and I'm wondering if maybe she got hit by one of the coop doors and injured when one was blown shut. I have them on pretty strong bungee cords but I guess if a really strong gust came up it could have slammed it on her. I've put a small chain on it just to be on the safe side.

I been keeping track for awhile now.
We had 29 hens that were giving at the best 20 eggs a day for most of the winter.
In January we added 16 adult birds that came from a stressed situation.

Now I am getting 30 eggs a day for the high, and a low of 24 per day.
It is cold here in NY, still very much winter.

I am going to track the sizes, maybe 1x a week and see if any changes.
So today is ...... 30 eggs from 45 hens.
1 small, 5 medium, 6 large, 11 Xlarge, 7 jumbo

Five eggs yesterday and three today from fourteen hens. I guess I need to add a little cracked corn into their layer feed. They seem to do a bit better with the corn added in.

Yeah, 22, we lost another hen yesterday.

Ah Jim, that sucks. I dread the day I lose one to unknown causes (or a predator).

Had a 5 egg day the other day, then a string of 7 2 days in a row, and 8 today, from 8 hens. I finally got to visit with them outside a little the other evening. Between the weather and my crazy schedule lately, I hadn't been paying them much attention. Maybe thats why I got 8 eggs today, lol. Good thing, too, because I told my FIL that's what I was giving him for taking the kids for the weekend, two dozen eggs. Hisnwifenwas paying big bucks for the cage free ones. Yikes!
