5/9 - one is broody and another is raising the three chicks I stuck under her when she went broody so my max expectation is 7. I have 8 buff orpingtons and 1 Easter egger. Of course it is the orpies that are broody/mothering chicks (Russian orloff chicks).

i have 12 hens buffs and leghorns how many eggs should i get per day they are young chickens about 8 weeks old i know they wont start laying untill 22 weeks any suggestion this is my first flock.

I don't have any buffs but I have three leghorns. At 10 months old they are laying almost every day. Most days I get three eggs, occasionally I only get two. They are great layers once they start! Better than any of my other birds!

For the last 3 days 11 of 16. One pretended that she was broody but then when I gave her some eggs to set on she went right back to roosting at night and ranging during the day. Silly girl. I'm sure she didn't lay today.

I only got 5/14 :(. Don't know why my girls are slacking. Nobodies molting. I also have one laying really thin shelled eggs that crack even though there's tons of oyster shell available. Ah well.

w!
Friday was 3/3, Thursday was 2/3, Wed was 3/3, Tuesday was 3/3! Today was 3/3!!!!!! My happy free range girls. Even helped me loosen soil in island bed for the free snacks of worms! That side almost ready to plant with flowers. Then will barrier it and they can do the next side with me!!!! Will leave the ends for them with some deep peat moss!

Look at what our sudden drastic dip in temps did... 3 one day, 4 the next, Zoe's taken an extra day... she seemed very cranky today... actually attacking my hands while cleaning... Her last egg was also broken in the nest, and the shell found out in the run... someone ate the yolk, but left some of the white in the nest... =/. So... I am hoping that it was indeed just an extra day off today on account of faux spring weather, and not the beginning of a very very bad habit.

5/5 Update:
Hmmm... Zoe didn't lay for a 3rd day in a row... this is highly unusual for her. She does not appear to be molting, and I didn't see any external parasites or mites when I checker her over... Still a chance this is the result of our bizarre weather. It's been so wet and cold this past week, that they have not had much out of coop time... but I let them out today for about 20 minutes this evening. Sunny days will be here again tomorrow... and they'll have a fresh 3 gallons of water set out for them.

5/6 Update:

Ahh, there she goes... Zoe laid this morning... whew! and at 64 grams, that's her biggest egg yet. She normally lays right around 60 grams.
