How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Well we normally get a enough to fill a dog food bowl and feed the hens separate from the roosters for this and for Monday then Wednesday and Friday and you will not believe the egg's you will get for several months and it is a great way to sell your hens if you ever get into that ......

Yes the Crows are feeding the young and I started having the young pullets start using the nesting boxes as they were hiding egg's in a lot of secret places and I was getting nest of over 20 egg's in some places but the crows were showing me where the nest were so now with all the nest picked up the crows just go in the coop and are using the air holes in the rafters ....

This $5 bag would fill a dog food bowl. That would be $15 a week! Yikes! How much do you pay for your meal worms and where do you get them?

Alright I understand you need to or might want to build a little planter box and fill it with dirt but about half way up put some cardboard in there for the worms to eat and add the worms and add dirt to the top wad get all the dirt wet and put a top on the box with air holes and every couple of weeks check on your cardboard as you will need to add some from time to time and you will produce enough worms to last you for years to come .....

I pay $ 30. dollars every 6 months and you do not need to give them worms every day once you get them laying really good for you unless you do it the way you are a little at a time but I do the big bag to get the egg's a dropping before I sell off the young pullets ...

My Spangled Russian Orloff Rooster and Hens ...

Full grown hens go for $ 30 to $ 40 dollars and chicks $ 10

My Molted Houdan Rooster and Hen ..

They go for the same price

EE pullets go for $ 25 dollars and chicks $ 5 dollars ....

See for me it is a business and people want chickens or pullets who
produce egg's when they pay that much

Thank you Gander! So you are using fresh mealworms not freeze dried. I will check with the pet store to see if they have fresh. I will have to look into raising them, although I will have to get over the ick factor of the full grow. Beetles :).

I've gotten 6 so far today. My great nieces & nephew ( ages 4, 5 & 3months) came over today to see the chicks (18 3 week old chicks) and chickens and to collect eggs. It was their first time. I put the 4 eggs from yesterday back out in the nest boxes to make sure they had something to collect because sometimes some of my hens don't lay until the afternoon. The hens did good today! The kids found a total of 10 eggs ( from 8 hens), so 6 of the girls had already laid their egg this morning.
On another note, I noticed that one of the chicks has a splay leg. At first I thought it was broken, but I think it has just gone splay. Is she still young enough at 3 weeks for it to be corrected? Is it common for just one leg to splay? I know I have read on BYC how to treat splay leg, now I have to try to find that thread again.

Found two more eggs, that makes this an 8 from 8 day!

So, do they carry them off in their feet? I always think of birds carrying things in their beaks.
