How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I just mark "out of town" in the log book for the period we're gone.  The kids do a great job taking care of the chickens when we're gone - cleaning the poop deck, gathering the eggs, checking and topping off the feeder and waterer - but asking them to keep up the log is a bit much.
well 3 of our 5 chickens are the neighbors. We do a co- op so I expect her to clean up after them and feed and water them while we are gone. But she already thinks I'm chicken crazy so I won't ask her to keep the log up for me haha! I'm sure a week won't matter much but if all of them are not laying by then I would like to know if we have new layers!

In the evening I have to ask the neighbors what the weekends eggs weighed. I've trained them well

Surprise! 2/5 today. I'm not positive who left this wonderful surprise but I think my threatening to pay them less attention is going to work! Yay.

Give 'em heck, Renee!  Maybe if you really scare the puddin' out of them you'll get 'em all laying one an hour just to be sure they're not on "the list"!  :woot
they better watch out they may not get their frozen bottles tomorrow to sit/lay on! Hmmm as I type I hear one of them squawking rather loudly, starting up the egg song maybe..maybe a 3 egg day tomorrow? I'm so excited with 2 eggs, I can only imagine 3 eggs!

Hmmmm, only 7 today. I've been getting 10-12 lately.

Also had to euthanize an unhatched chick.

Mama was off the nest for her daily eat 'n' poop and another hen (I think?) kicked the egg out and broke it wide open.
Poor thing wasn't due to hatch until Saturday. It was moving too.

Not one of the things I had anticipated having to do.

I'm not gonna hold my breath Quickster but I am really just happy there is now a 2nd layer.

WVDoug- sorry to hear that! :/

Any suggestions on ways to get one or two of my hens to stop laying there eggs in weird spots in the coop? We keep finding eggs near the feeder and under there roosts. The last is just crazy why would they want to lay an egg in a bunch of poo!!!!!

It happens to me too sometimes! I walk in my coop and step on eggs! So annoying!! I heard placing fake eggs in the places you want them to lay?? I need to try something too :)
