How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

It might be like one I got - not a double or triple yolker, but two complete eggs in one shell! It had two complete outer whites, two complete inner whites, and two yolks. You can try setting it on a roll of toilet paper that has a bright light inside and candeling it. Never works for me but seems to for everyone else who does it.
I got 9/10 today - Agatha is still broody.

You know I bought a 300 lumen flashlight from Walmart and I can't keep it working. It's not the batteries, I keep changing them because you never know if the batteries are being drained even when it won't work. My son keeps coming over with his $200 flashlight and telling me he will get me one but I was using his today and the dang thing won't work for me. I don't know if it is me or if his flashlight needs charged. It is one like the police use so he thinks it's the ultimate. He s out back working on a car so I will ask him when he last charged it when he comes in.

I will try the tp candling and see what I can see if I can find a flashlight that works for me. My husband demagnetizes credit cards, maybe I am the same way with flashlights? LOL

I got 3 more eggs today, bringing my total up to my normal 5. My pullets should start kicking in anytime now. The oldest ones from this year are headed to 22 weeks. I don't even know how many pullets I have out there because some of that first hatch this year, the cockerels/roosters and the pullets look so much alike. The ones I think are pullets just have smaller combs but some of them have the long tail feathers. Some of them I KNOW are roosters, they are crowing and going after the girls. They are a mixed breed. Dad is a Welsummer and Mom could be an EE, a red production, a black hen that we thought was an Australorp, a Cornish cross, a BO, or a Salmon Favorolle. They do not have fluffy cheeks and only 4 toes so as far as I know that cuts out the EEs, BO and SF.

I also have 1 duckling that is almost 21 weeks and 3 others that are almost 20 weeks old. I don't know when to expect them to start laying.

Big Lots has a three pack of LED flashlights with batteries in the automotive department for $5. I candled the eggs my broodys were on with one....works great.

3/3 two in morning and figured that the lil one wasn't going to lay today as she is learning. Went out around 2 to do water and low and behold, there was a tiny lil chicken in her nest box laying her egg.

They all squat! They're getting friendlier again too. No one bolted away when I sat in the coop to watch them.

I'm getting 7-9 a day now! A couple new girls have started laying!!

Today I got 7. I am a happy chicken momma. I still only have 9/17 of my adult girls laying. Can't wait until the other 8 start!

I could be wrong, I thought I paid $40 for this 200 lumen flashlight but it might only have been $20. Nope, while I wrote that I remembered that at the time I bought it I was thinking that I could have saved all the money I spent on the other 3 flashlights and bought this one in the first place, it was $40. So, I took it back to Walmart, no receipt, my husband is good at throwing receipts away. I took it up to the customer service desk and went back to get another one. There were none, not even of a different size of the same brand, there were NONE of the same brand. So, there was one of a different brand for $40 with *700* lumens. I knew that the amount of money I'd get back would be the lowest sale price they could find but anything I could use to put toward the new flashlight would be better than nothing. I get up to the service desk and the lady can't find it in the system.

You didn't buy it here. Yes, I did, at Walmart, at this very store. It's not in the system. Ok, I bought it 2 or 3 months ago. It's not in the system. *Sigh* It says, "Lifetime Warranty," will the manufacturer take it back without proof of purchase, the receipt? At the same time she is saying, "You will have to send it to the manufacturer." Then she says, "I don't know what they will do with no receipt." So I said, I feel like throwing this darn thing across the room and she says, "I understand." I had to make a trip to the bathroom before we paid for the 700 lumen flashlight and while in there, I got madder and madder and when I went out, I handed the flashlight to a girl at a register and asked her to put it in her return basket. We left. I don't blame Walmart but I really could use that darn flashlight as a hammer!!!!!

My husband had to go to Lowe's for some bolts so I went to get a pumpkin while we were there. They are cheaper than Walmart and I wasn't sure my chickens would eat it so I didn't want to pay for one that big or the same price for a smaller one but the tiny ones, I wasn't sure they would work. My chickens seem to be weird where other people's chicken will eat things, mine won't. Mine don't care for mealworms but I only tried dried. Anyways, I passed a small flashlight for $15 with 200 lumens and bought it. Got home, my son had left and come back because he forgot his fancy flashlight. He doesn't know the lumens of his flashlight but before he got back I had opened the new flashlight, it came with batteries and guess what? It wouldn't work! The little cartridge for the batteries, size AAA, has the plus sign on what looks like the wrong end of the cartridge but I did what it said. Didn't work. Flipped the cartridge, didn't work. Flipped the batteries in the cartridge, didn't work. Flipped the cartridge again, didn't work. I have a lot of patience, really I do. At this point, I figured the batteries are no good and my son comes in and wants to mess with the flashlight that I tried to take back. He got it to work.....again. For how long I don't know but I used his wife's flashlight to candle my eggs. He brought hers show me and he wants to order one for me. He's not going to pay for it and he says it costs $150 - $170, he doesn't remember which. It has a rechargeable battery and has a house and car charger that comes with it. I like it better than his, it is smaller and the eggs sit on the end just right.
