How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Todays total 20/24, this is a record for me yea! 24 hens, 3 in molt & not laying & the other 21 are this Springs hatch. They are doing awesome, but I do provide additional light.

My old Red Star hen used to lay rippled eggs from time to time. I attributed it to her age and the fact that her former owner didn't care for her that well. She is our favorite hen though...we lover her!

third day of 11/12.....have a Red Comet gone broody! Caught her two nights in a row hoarding eggs in one of the nesting boxes, she was rather vocal about me taking them from her! Silly girl...we don't have a rooster! All she was doing was keeping the eggs warm , nothing gonna happen with those eggs!

:thumbsup That's awesome!

I have gotten one a day yesterday and today. Better than none :)

On another thread it was pointed out it would be better if their run covering was clear. DH is working on getting some clear panels to put up instead of the tarp (yessssss!). Also, I think the treats I give are a little carb heavy so I am going to try to get more protein treats into the rotation.
Now I also am going to start tweaking the light timer. Currently they are only getting added light from 5:30 to 7:30 am.

Love this site, learning more all the time.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but ours are let out of the coop at 6:30am daily to run around their 1600sf pasture. When it's cold, they can go back in the covered run (that has old clear storm windows on it to entirely block the wind). They seem to be outside as much as possible--when it's cold, when it's muddy, and even a bit when it's snowing. My best foragers are these 10 laying girls. The pullets are out too, but not quite as much as the Comets/Leghorns. Whoever said Leghorns aren't cold hardy or good foragers hasn't met these girls!
