Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for.so you haven't gotten below 0, what part of the country are you? Did you start older hens with the horizontal nipples and if so how did they do? I was reading that it takes them a minute to get it and to pull all other water sources when you do change over. I have read people say weeks old chicks pick it up within hours. What was your experience?

12/23 so far might get a couple more before 6:00.

Northern WV.
First try with the horizontal. I had been using vertical in PVC pipe, but they froze.
I flicked the pin a few times and one hen came to investigate, was drinking within a minute. The others soon followed. The other water source wasn't working, but I left it there anyway.
The bucket is on some concrete blocks and has 8 nipples spaced around it. 4 down low for the 8 week olds, and 4 higher for the adults.

Honeys, I'm hooo-ooome! Ken said we got 4 eggs on Wednesday, 2 yesterday, and 5 today. Guess they knew I was on my way home and they missed me!

our warmer temps will begin tomorrow evening... from middle neg. teens to upper double digits for all of next week. looks like a few warmer upper 30,s at weeks end.
