I use a 7W CFL and it provides plenty of light to keep them laying.I recently added some eletricity to my coop,i did it so i could give them more "Daylight" to see if that would help with their laying,it definetly seems to have helped,i was only getting 1-2 eggs a day from 12 hens,it was a combo of them being penned in the house and the very short days, dark at 5pm and daylight at 8am,i added a timer to have lights on at 5 am and off at 8am,and on at 5pm and off at 7pm,it has helped them get back on track, everyone who was laying before is no back on track, however i am not sure if the extra cost of electricity is going to outweigh the extra eggs? I think I NEED to get some Hamburgs!Hamburgs are amazing birds. My silvers lay almost every single day of the week.
