Does anyone on here given or provided hatching eggs for schools? What are the pro's and cons based on your experiences. Also what happens after the chicks hatch. Did you have to go in to the class room and help or provide information regarding hatching.
I did provide eggs to an experienced chicken person for a classroom hatch. There is actually a thread for hatching in the classroom if you search for it.
The lady that hatched the eggs kept all of the chicks for her own personal flock. There were some issues with the school administration however. They were fine with the hatching, but once the chicks were out of the egg they wanted the birds gone. They ended up granting special permission to keep the chicks at the school until they were a week old but the kids were not allowed to touch them.
On another note, I think a lot of people hatching in schools do not know what to do with the chicks afterwards. Parents/kids are not equipped to deal with young chicks that need a heat lamp.
