I don't know how many eggs I have yet, we are snowed in with 2 feet of snow! My poor girls are stuck in the coop today but they have plenty of room so they will be fine. I am going to check if they layed any eggs later today.
We have 4 hens that we know lay, and 4 that we have reared from eggs that I think have just started to lay sporadically. Add to that the very cold weather we have here at them moment, so we get between 2 and 4 eggs every day at the moment, except yesterday we had 5. One of our layers always lays a double yolker and we even had a triple yolker from her once.
I am SO bummed! I am new to this chicken world, and have been slowly building a little motley flock. I had two hens who were laying an egg each, nearly every day. Then, a little over a week ago, I purchased four new hens, two of which were said to be laying. All four are quite young, but the seller, who is a local woman, who I have reason to believe to be reputable, was sure that two of them had begun to lay. Then, as I have mentioned in another thread, I have acquired a small polish hen, who was quite sick when she came, but is on the mend. She has been kept apart from her future coop-mates.
For a few days after the introduction of the four new hens, my two senior (in terms of residence, not age - they are under a year) hens continued to present their offering of two eggs a day. But, for the past 4 days, I have been greeted by blank stares from hens, full of egg-maker, but void of eggs. Sigh. I think the new hens have persuaded my hens that they don't really have to bother with all that egg-laying stuff, if they don't feel like it. Brats. LOL.
