How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

WOW so sorry for your damages 
6 eggs from 8 hens...had to clean the coop and nest house today....they should be happy with the clean Hay filled coop and run however...I sue deep bedding so 8 inches of rich compost out 10 inches of hay and lawn clippings in.

I use pine shavings. I rake the coop out once a week and spread it around under and around the coop. Makes some nice compost when I mix the dirt up. Lots of worms when it rains. Also made a soft landing when 3 of my newborns tried to follow momma outside today. They flopped off the ramp and I spent an hour trying to catch the and getting them back inside. Poor girl was frantic because she had 3 inside coop and 3 trying to get back in. Shortly after getting them back in that storm hit. The littles would not of survived outside.

I am glad you got them in before the storm. I find with the deep bedding that there is no need to clean the coop more than 2 times a year. My coop was given to me and is very predator proof however it sits at ground level and the only way to get the "Krewe" out or clean is to remove both halves of the roof so the deep mulch saves my back. I just stir it up and add more hay and grass clippings when the level drops.....works great for me.

i wouldnt worry about the scared hen.she will find her way back on her own,the more that you fuss over them the more upset they will get.You simply cannot herd a scared chicken,they are a lot more hardy then you think are you able to leave the door open for her to get back in?,i find when you leave them alone it all seems to work out fine..Good Luck

Can't leave it open. The others will get out and I've got babies in there. No fence to keep the predators from them if I did that. Lots of work tomorrow

Well even with a tornado (yes it was confermed) going right overhead today during that storm I still got 5/6/7 today. The last hen was safely put in the coop with no injuries. We have to repaire that gate and fence tomorrow but all 8 bigs and 6 littles survived!!!

Btw. I pulled 2 eggs that my hen gave up on yesterday. I have them under a headlamp at around 98-100 degrees even though I figured they should of hatched yesterday but not knowing the exact lay date I kept them. I just candled them without moving them in case they were alive and I may of imagined it but I think I saw movement in both!!!! How long should I keep them?
