still at 0/15. turning the light on for a few hours a day this week to see if it helps. I may look for a timer for a light. my 2 LF Cochin pullets are getting closer to laying age but no squatting yet.

That is what I have done, I've set the timer to come on just before it's dark and stay on till around 7pm and then back on @ 6am till about 7:30 am just to get them started. Yesterday we ended up getting 4/7...but still better than nothing right....

My timer is on a similar schedule. I started it in the pullet coop cause they were way past due to lay. They're all laying now. 2 weeks ago I started adding light slowly to the oldest flock since they are all recovered from molt. A little over a week ago they were up to the same lighting schedule as the others and beginning around 4 days agoI've been getting one or two eggs a day from 7 old birds in there.

Everyone with older birds (2-10 years) not laying - have patience. We're 2 days from the shortest day of the year and then days will get longer which = eggs.

Don't you think it's better to have the light on early? Let's say 4am - 8am? And not toward the end of day? It gets dark here around 5pm, it gets the chicken to settle for the night and roost. If the light's on while they're still roaming the coop and suddenly turns off, some might not able to settle to roost and end up on the floor or what not and be stressed in the long run. Just saying

It is better for it to be in the morning but the birds adjust and hop onto the roost long before the light goes out abruptly.
Mine comes on at 5:30AM and no earlier because there are roosters in each building and that would guarantee they start crowing whenever the light comes on.

The neighbors seem to handle 5:30 but I don't want to push it with 4:00.

I have my lights on a timer and the extra light is at the end of the day. My girls wander around in the coop for a while then get up on their roosts and hang out until the lights go off. I think their internal clocks get used to the extra light and they know when the "day" is about to end.
