How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Thanks. After I get my birds all together (intro period so separated) my eggs should hatch and I'll use the smaller pin (revamped for babies) to grow my group. I've got several happy people who get free eggs because they are elderly and closer than family and they are passing word around. We will start selling to new people at $2 for dozen $3 for 18 count if they bring their own cartons. Add$.50 if I provide carton. That way the girls start paying for themselves. The boys will be raised up and sold or culled and given away as gifts or sold for dinners. I'll get 2 unrelated Roos every spring to mix my bloodline and hatch more to cover losses or culls each spring.

All in all I'm looking at around 30-40 hens and 10-15 Roos for meat. I've got people wanting to buy the extra babies for a starter flock of their own.
Unless I actually sell the ones my 14 are giving just now I will stay with just them. I really do not want to go into roosters or raising any again I raised all but three I have from chicks and if I added any it would be more bard rocks they are my loyal daily girls.

so I found the new secret egg clutch I found 8 eggs from the last 3 days hidden behind the new nesting buckets. The americanas has been on a laying spree one a day wohoo.

Well we either got 10 or 11/14.

My son and his son came over to watch the end of the race today and while I was doing the fresh water feed thing for the girls, they gathered the eggs. 6 or 7.

Then after the race I had to run to my daughters house to take my grandkids up there a couple things I made them...Oh and took some eggs also.

My wife went to the coop and got the rest of the eggs. 4 for sure.

I was like that as well at first then hens snuck off and had babies and I ended up with 9 or 10 roosters. 2 have a new home. Others will be stew pot bound. Than that leaves my hens and pullets. Then the new ones I've got in the incubator. I like the idea of knowing what went into them. Nice meat and great taste. I also know they didn't sit in a room getting trampled but enjoyed life until the clean quick end.

Seems like a lot of us here are starting to see an uptick in eggs. I personally think it is because days are getting longer, but who knows. It is just nice to see.

You would be correct ;)

Daylight in the northern hemisphere is increasing, so they respond accordingly when sunlight reaches 14 hours of light per day. My average winter daily count was between 8-12, with one day having zero. In the last 3 days, its increased to 15 a day, steadily climbing.

Summer count is 18-24 per day, so we are getting closer to preferred hours of natural light. I don't supplement light in winter; I let them "go dormant" and have a rest in winter to save energy for staying warm.

I also have 16 new young ladies that are coming into lay, and yesterday got 6 eggs out of new layers, so that boosted my count quite a bit this early in the year ;)
