How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

15 eggs today.
Tonight coming home I almost ran over a ferret! I am thinking it must have belonged to someone & then escaped. That might be what made off with the juvenile rooster a few days ago. So far the only thing I have seen on the trail cam, besides chickens, was an owl at night and some eyes in the distance.

@karenerwin you are right it looks like the Molten Houdan's seem to be just popping out for me with ease but it was also several years of hit and miss before I finally got them to hatch very well for me but even now I am getting 80% hatch rate it just came down to getting the correct breeding pair as these are some very hard chickens to purchase as adults and the shipping is quite pricy but in the long run much better then trying to hatch out the eggs as so many people are selling fertile eggs from under aged chickens thus the eggs they ship might hatch if incubated in the location where they were produced but if shipped the eggs do not travel as well as eggs that would be produced from a much more mature and well developed chicken this all something I had to learn the hard way with trial and error .

Funny I have a Ferret running around here from time to time and it is a egg thief of the night and early mornings and it really keeps the chickens roosting up high and I do believe the reason the guinea making noise at night .

This is my latest invention to keeping the little vermin out a chicken coop with all 6 sides covered with wire and no it is not finished yet but in the next week or so I should have chickens staying in it

We had a nice rainy day today so I took a day off to rest but when I finish there will be 120sq feet of space and a roof will go on top or all the chickens will parish from the sun's heat alone .

I hope to have a cage hanging on the walls for the chicks to grow up in relative safety, now if I haven't already said it I am not even half way finished yet .

Temp 68Fdegrees and raining on and off all day and as you can see in the photo it was very cloudy but we can use the rain as it has been dry this year even for Death Valley

Ya really do not get the different altitude of all the different cloud formations but you can see for us it was a dart cloudy and wet day at almost 1/2 inch that is a lot for a day with many water puddles covering the road .

Nice! that's going to add a lot of space! Will you leave the sides just wire? I guess you can do that in Death Valley. I would have to cover the wire with some kind of wall because of the winter weather we get here in the midwest.

I put 15 eggs in the incubator on April 7th. I am going to try weighing the eggs this time to see how that works out.

My initial intent was to leave the sides with wire but I will need to put a roof on it for shade and a few pieces of plywood on the sides for shade but for the most part wire will make up the sides but the south side will have doors and this should cast some shade hopefully and I was standing on the north side when I took the photo of the coop yesterday but if you look on the left side of the picture you will see a shed I use as a chicken coop and it has double walls for cooling and there is a celling fan in there .

Alright so you should be having a nice hatch near the end of the month .

I was looking around in the grow out cage this morning as one of the pullets was missing and I found she had a nest of 9 soft green colored eggs so now I need to decide if she will be going into the yard or if I will be putting her up for sale or trade .

Are you all sure that you have ferrets running around? I don't believe there are many wild ferrets around. Could they be mink or weasels?

No it is a Ferret it was confirmed by the kids that were looking for it and it was probably never wild till it got away from it's owners and it was brought in by a OTR truck driver and I have seen it more then once and yes it is a fast mover and egg thief and I have several chickens that have lost a lot of feathers to this little vermin ..
