None the past two days

and other hen still hasnt laid her first yet

Five eggs from five hens. Two of our EEs just started laying two days ago! Woohoo.

No, there is no light in the coup, my guess is it about 5x7.. Possibly a bit larger (it was already here when I moved into the house so didn't buy it myself ) I'll have to measure it, it is supposed to be able to house around 10-12 chickens I think... I dont think it is big enough to put a light in it.. And I'd be worried about the light causing fire being that it's not very high.. (I wouldn't have a place to plug it into anyway.) although maybe I could find another fire safe heat source if need be? My other option would be to house them all in the shed with a few adjustments (which is like a small barn anyway) I was previously used as a woodworking shed..So it's quite large and has electricity, has lighting and enough space to install a heat lamp. I could just make some adjustments to make it more coop-like. I just don't know if my older hens would be willing to go in there since they are so accustomed to their coop and obviously have their routine.. It'd be great if I could get them in there for the winter because they'd have plenty more space to move around on days when it's too cold and snowy to let them out... The babies have made themselves at home in it though... I just figured once they integrate with the adults, they'll just follow them back into the coop and learn the routine from them. I only have two bantams.. The rest are regular size Easter Egger mixes and a Delaware hen.. The two bantams I have (and the regular buff polish) are only about 3 months old and not of laying age yet... Any suggestions?

what size coop do you have? do you have a light in it now?

Yesterday's actual count was 2/9 and so far today 1/9.ist girls are in middle molt

I am so eggcited the girls are producing eggs now that the temps are not over 110Fdegrees !





Temp high 80's with constant winds but the flock seems happier with these next to freezing temperatures .



I had a murder of crows come through to day and cleaned out one of the nest that a hen was sitting on out side the coop area ya one of the free range hens now on the other hand my momma who hatched out a chick and yes only one is following her around in the coop anyway I put a shallow pan with water in there and a pile of chick starter and closed the door to keep out the un wanted as they would only clean up the feed and finish off the water ..

9 today, but still 0 from the EE coop's 8 ladies. 7 from 10 & 2 from 4

I see you are still getting a descent egg count from your girls and I am thinking they must be getting worms or extra bugs to eat .


I got 2 of my eggs for the EE's today they are making me so proud .

you actually need more space for 10 to 12 birds than 5 x 7 coop, your idea to move them to the other
building is pretty solid weather a light will help it can
