3 eggs found and one was brown on each end with white in the middle and it was an XXL egg wow do I need to find out the hen who produced that egg .

Temp 87 F degrees with light winds, I had to find my jacket when I went to the store as it was so cold

I haven't had any of my ladys go in to molt yet but then again every summer my girls do tend to pull their own feathers off them selves as it gets so hot and it normally starts after the 115F degree mark in June so if I even had some in molt I would not be able to tell .

I have three active coops right now and each one has lighting but the new one I was working on last winter before it got too hot hasn't any light yet but I do not have doors on it either as I had to stop when it got way to hot and I was forced to stop but I should have it up and running I hope by next month .
Sounds like you should be able to tell who laid the XXL egg, she'll be the one walking funny!

We had pretty cold weather here in the morning, I was wishing I had on gloves when I went to let the chickens out for the day! I believe the overnight low was 40 degrees.

Sounds like your girls force themselves into a sort of molt in the hot summer months, maybe that's why they don't seem to molt later. A friend told me about someone that has a coop for sell, but my hubby said NO. I was thinking I could use it to rotate the chicken yards. Close up 1 coop and move everybody to the "new" coop and give the old area a rest for a year and then rotate another coop. My hubby wasn't going for that idea, so I guess I'll wait awhile on that idea.

Just 5 eggs today. 2 coops gave no eggs.

Friday

2 eggs found and then a fresh nest of 8 eggs so I took 7 of the eggs and left 1 egg so the girls will start laying eggs in the same spot as the ladys in that group only were hatched back June so I was very surprised when I started only giving the a little laying mash on Monday and bam eggs from the pullets and they are only 16 to 22 weeks old   Total eggs for the day was 9 and a neighbor took them and a small donation for the feed bill :)  ....

Temp 88F degrees with clear sky's and calm winds nice day to go out and  clean up the coops :thumbsup

My incubator is set and the Multan Houdan ladys stopped laying eggs and they were the ones I set the incubator up for :th
Yeah that laying mash is magic, really makes them eggs pop out¿
Today's fetch from my 5 girls. GC

Quote: In the truck box? Creative nesting! Leave it to a chicken...

I do plan on penning the girls once we can move the roosters and guineas to their new home.
Right now it wouldn't end well with all the 40+ roosters and all these guineas if I tried to keep them locked in all day with the hens.
It's all my spring/summer chicks and keets that haven't been trained to the nest boxes/coop through a winter.
Although I did see a couple young girls laying in the nest boxes on this morning.

I actually want the chickens to cover this whole yard, about 8 acres.
If they'll cover the calving paddock beside that'd be even better.
Would be about 16 acres of foraging for them. The guineas are covering about 3/5 of that.

I popped into the city to pick up chick starter after work yesterday and was late getting back.
Had hubby's uncle shut the coop. Something hit the coop before he got there because a dozen birds had been spooked outside.
Nothing was on the roosts inside and everybody was upset. I see feathers outside but don't see anyone missing.

17 eggs from yesterday
Fed about 26 or so eggs back to the hens/dogs/cats this morning from the nest boxes this morning (includes yesterday's count.)

look like I end the day with 10 of 18 + 2 with the new tarp tied in to the hubs
and door frame and dry birds for the winter

I got 8 marans,11 frizzles, 1 Ameruacan bantam,
0 in my greens eggs, big let down, cause im hatching those so by spring i can sell the roosters
easyer standeah ameruacana 0

5 / 35 have some old ones and a lot of young who are almost in prime for laying hoping one day I go out and find 3 dozen that will be exciting
