How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

FYI your nest boxes should be lower than the roosts or you might have birds spending the night (and pooping) in the nests.
they are..there is 2 levels in this coop but Their roosting pole is about 3 feet above the top level. The middle box only has a roost poll incase I lock them in there but I rarely do. It has to be really windy and cold.

Our hens sometimes squeeze into the low nest boxes anyway on the coldest nights. We do a poop check in the morning and clean if necessary.
1/8 today grom a Welsummer pullet. Warming to above freezing tomorrow for a few days, should improve production.

A BIG FAT ZERO!
Yeah but I got 6 chicks in April so I would have eggs this winter. They have been doing OK other than the Exchequers that started then quit.

We did the same thing and added 12 pullets this spring. They provided well through the molts of the old hens this fall, but have fallen short of expectations as the weather has turned colder and darker. The pullets are only laying very occasionally now and the old girls are carrying the day, however sparsely. I've had a couple donuts recently as well. I'm finding out that the breeds we selected are notorious for being erratic winter layers. Should have added more hybrids or RIR. Our Amberlinks are the most reliable layers we have.

3 today, 2 from the 2 yr old Amberlinks and 1 from the 3 yr old Partridge Rock
