How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

23 Eggs Today so far, I’m hoping the two hens sitting are late day layers not preparing to be broody #5 & 6.

Speaking of broodies, I took the remaining 5 eggs from broody #2 since 6 days past hatching and candle them with my phone light, 3 eggs were fully developed and got cold and 2 had died earlier when the RIR broody#2 got lost and sat on the wrong clutch of eggs. I was so surprised she hatched three chicks 3 days ago.

15/16 eggs! I haven’t seen an egg from my bantam EE in a week. Maybe two. I wonder if she went broody (had to kick her out of the nest box several times) and now took a egg hiatus. Bah!!

2/2 perfect again today so pleased!

Young broody doing well and stayed put all day yesterday, just a bit worried as there was an egg or 2 on view at the front of her, I hope she knows she needs to cover them properly!

I have to go to town but will get some photos uploaded soon of the gorgeous new chicks

2/2 again Monday and yesterday - realised I forgot to check this morning when I let them out (clearly not enough coffee ). No odd ones for days now - maybe they are finally getting into the swing of things!

23 Eggs, yesterday early morning Broody#3 (Black Copper Marans)hatched 2 chicks, for some odd reason BSL got spooked and ends up in the nest w/ broody & chicks got into a fight trampling the babies and BSL end up dead, I was so puzzled, what went wrong? 3 chicken dead! What a day! is it easy to hatch in the incubator?

On good note, Broody #4 (Australorps) hatched 2 chicks last night, now my big coop is all divided up in cubicles.

I was so puzzled, what went wrong? 3 chicken dead! What a day! is it easy to hatch in the incubator?

Oh Kris what a nightmare! Your poor little ones.

I'm starting to wonder about my Sussex as well as I just went down to check she had gone back on the eggs (I knew she had been off earlier and watned to check she wasn't leaving them for ages) and she had but she had a few poking out the side of her. What a worry - this happened the other day as well. I just wonder if her inexperience means she doesn't know to tuck them all in (so is she turning them and doing all the things she is supposed to be doing??). I'm seriously considering taking 6 eggs and leaving her 6 just to try to spread the risk between the broody and the incubator.

I forgot to tell you guys and you may not have seen my other thread - our dear little 5 week old Araucana Edward Scissor beak went sharply downhill yesterday / today and I had to make the call to put him down. Until then he'd been running up to me everytime I went down there where today he seemed weak so I just had to act. Thankfully I'd found out from my neighbour that you can buy ether at the pharmacy here so it was very peaceful. My 12 year old son held him (totally totally his choice) and I just did it with a cotton ball with a cotton ball square thing over his beak and he just fell asleep . yes I really wish I'd made the call earlier as he was just so so so tiny - I'll definitely make the call earlier next time. RIP Edward.
