How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

15 eggs today. One EE and one brown layer took the day off.

Hens have figured out that maggots are yummy. The compost matured quite a bit during the 3 weeks I was gone. Hens are crazy busy when they hit it - it’s fun to watch them go at it.

Also grass got really high AND developed seed heads. They got into that grass yesterday and spent dedicated time stripping the seeds off. So this afternoon I fenced off a new adjacent section of grass and let the hens in. They loved that too. I think I’ll save a section of grass for a week for them. The rest will get mowed this weekend.

Only 9 yesterday. That’s what I get for letting the hens read my post about them. Many decided to take the day off and digest the compost bounty. Grr.

My girls have been laying their butts off this week! 4 from 4 all week! Had to give the neighbor a dozen...these things pile up quickly!

Oh no! My light Brahma is down. She didn’t come out with the others and when I found her she was in the corner. She won’t stand. She feels light weight but not skin and bones. I lost her sister a few months ago to reproductive issues.

Sucks the joy right out of the day.

Thanks! I'm still excited about it. I boiled 33 bantam eggs a couple weeks ago. I'm probably ready to do another batch! They do pile up!
