How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Only 7 eggs for me today.
I do have a humorous story though.
I went out to lock up the coops and in the big coop I was missing 2 birds, the meat chicken and a white leghorn. I found the meat chicken (8 months old) under the chicken coop and got her to come out and go into the coop. But I could not find the missing leghorn. I checked the other coop in case she had decided to switch coops. Nope, not there. I was shining my flashlight out into the woods to see if she had decided to stay there tonight instead of coming in, but I couldn't see anything that looked like a white chicken ( or the remains of one!). I looked up in the trees in the run and over by and on the compost pile, onto of the small bachelor coop and everywhere I could think of. I was just getting ready to go out into the woods for a better look around when I noticed that the metal pail that I keep chicken food in wasn't closed all the way. Sure enough when I moved the lid and looked inside, there was the missing leghorn! :lau I think she flew up to perch on the lid and it flipped on her and she fell in and the lid came back down and trapped her. It's like a metal trash can and lid nut it has a metal handle like a pail. Anyway, I lifted her out and put the lid on securely. She was fine and everyone was accounted for.

And of course she didn't answer when you called for her. Nooooo, can't say "I'm in here!!!!"

My 'funny' for today was no eggs yet at noon, all the girls followed me to the gate on my way out since it is a ridiculous 47°F and no snow. They thought they wanted to come out front, I thought otherwise.

I wasn't 15' past the gate when I heard flap, flap, flap. Turned around and there was Hera (EE) jumping off the top of the 5' tall gate. Took a bit to get her back through the gate without losing the whole flock and OF COURSE she wouldn't fly back up on the gate to get back in.

I got 7 eggs this morning when I went to let the chickens out. There may or may not be more later this evening,
@bruceha2000 that is when you need a handful of BOSS or some other treat. Throw it over the fence where you want everyone to be. If you're lucky, Hera would fly back over to get some or else the other hens would be too busy eating to try to escape as you herd Hera back inside the gate. Who knows she may even have run back in there to try to get her share of the goodies!

Welcome to the braggers thread @BallyFarm do you have light on?
I got 4 and none in silky tonight
No I’d don’t, my girls are very picky some days I get 5 or all of them lay. My duck hasn’t laid this week although I didn’t think she laid last week either but found seven eggs hidden from me. So now I just need to search for her nest. I’m really curious though do you guys have any tips to prevent your hens from pecking and breaking their Eggs?

I've never had an egg eater and I guess I've been lucky with that. Mine have a "forever home" so they eat free after they stop laying. Not sure I would keep a girl that was an egg eater, she might become the exception. You can get "rollout nests" where the egg rolls out after it is laid so the hen can't get to it.

Zero today. Sophia was in the box about 3:30 when I was passing out scratch. I tried to give her some and she bolted. She's a pullet so I don't know all about her yet. I know which of the older ones not to approach when they are on the nest and those that want me to give them treats. Some call out to me to say "I'm on the nest, please bring me some". In any case, Sophia didn't get back on the nest so she'll either lay from the roost or hold it for early morning (hoping for the second).

I sometimes have a hen that will eat eggs in the nest. I usually try to check often for eggs to get them before she does. I have read of others putting ceramic eggs in the nest or blowing out a real egg and filling the shell with hot mustard or something else they won't like to try to break them of the habit.
I would not have a problem culling an egg eater if I could figure out for sure who it was. Currently I do not have any egg eaters that are eating eggs.
I also make sure that I have the feed buckets full and that they have access to oyster shell to make sure they aren't eating the eggs in an effort to get the nutrients that they need.

Another green egg from Miss Sophia! This one has extra pigment on one end! And it's blue! Don't know if it's visible but it's really pretty!
