How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

10 today

@MLG1900 I have or have had Cubalaya, Easter Egger, Black Australorp, Faverolles, Ancona, Partridge Chantecler, White Rock, Barred Rock, Exchequer Leghorn, Barnevelder, Welsummer, Golden Campine, Austra White, Columbian Wyandotte.

Those that I got in early June all laid through their first winter. The ones I got in late April all started before winter then shut down. I have NO birds that typically lay though the winter even though some like the Faverolles and Chanteclers are "supposed to be" winter layers. Near as I can tell if you want eggs in the winter, you need to force them by having light in the coop. Presumably 14 hours though I don't know why since my girls typically start back up mid to late February and we don't even have 12 hours of light until March 20th or so.

I can't even say which breeds start laying earliest because I usually get 2 of a breed and they don't always even start laying within a few weeks of each other. The Exchequer Leghorns did start about 20 weeks which is on the early end for my flock. But contrary to their description of M to L eggs, the girls struggle to OCCASIONALLY make M (same with the Faverolles). The Barred Rocks were also pretty early and have been great layers of L to XL eggs. I've had EEs start as early as 23 weeks and as late as 30.

Hi! I live in southern NJ. It is winter but we have had mostly a mild winter. days in the 40s to 50s. I have just started getting some chicken eggs last week. I collected 4 eggs today and 5 eggs yesterday. I have 6 older girls. They are going to be 4yrs old. And I have 8 younger girls. They are almost 2 years old. I have seen a few of the younger girls and one of the older girls in the nest boxes. So far, all the ones I have witnessed in the boxes are Americana or easter egger mixes. (from a barnyard hatch)

I would love to hear from other chicken owners which breeds have been laying over the winter, or which ones are the earliest to start laying.

9 eggs out of 13 layers. My white leghorns will lay non stop. My EE shut down for winter. My Production Blue and Speckled Sussex chickens slowed way down. I put a red light on them after a month of slow production and everyone is starting to lay again.

This was my collection today.
