How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yesterday and the day before yesterday I got 3 out of 4. But....I think the oldest Faverolles who I thought had retired started to lay. I can’t prove it exactly, but both days a Faverolles egg was in a nest box. For several weeks all the eggs have been laid in an open bale of straw behind the door. She’s also squatting. No I didn’t do a butt check. It’s nice to see her acting happy .

62 eggs today from 63 hens.
My broody girl is still missing. My grandkids said they saw her in the yard with the others today, but she wasn't in the coop when I did my nightly head count. :idunno
Time to start looking in all the bushes around the place. She has a nest somewhere.

Time to get a folding chair and a good book :D

Only 11 today but given there were 17 yesterday I'm not surprised. Plus I don't really need a dozen plus every day.

So, when would ya’ll give up on a pullet that won’t lay an egg? I have a 30 week old EE that hasn’t laid an egg yet. Every other EE she was raised with started laying between 18-22 weeks. She is healthy and has all the signs of a bird that’s laying, pelvic bones have been about 2 1/2 fingers wide for several weeks now. Just no eggs.

I wouldn't give up on her, I'd give her a few more weeks at least.

2 1/2 fingers wide? I’d say she’s definitely laying. Easter Eggers can be VERY smart and VERY sneaky. You should try isolating her and see if she lays by herself.

On the other hand, some hens just can’t lay. I had a blue Cochin (she died in December 2019:hit) who had a defective shell gland. She laid her first egg at 10 months, before that I was convinced she was some kind of hen-feathered cockerel. She laid only a handful of eggs before her death at 1 year 9 months. So sad. I miss her.

Anyway, not every girl can lay. I hope yours is just outfoxing you.🥰
