9 today. I peeked in the coop this morning and caught 3 hens trying to use the same nest at the same time. Clearly the one on the floor is the favorite, so I moved another next to it and they were happy.
Five eggs out of five laying hens!! For the first time ever haha, usually it was three a day but I’m so happy now! Only issue is that I have a colored egg layer, EE, light brown leghorn, and two buff Orpingtons, but I got 2 blue eggs (one very light one a greenish blue), one green egg, and two browns. I thought light brown leghorns laid white?? She has white earlobes but I forget which color of egg that would be... The buffs have to be laying the browns, I know the colored egg layer lays the green, and the EE lays blue. So why is my leghorn also laying blue?
2 of 4 BUT, the door opened up on the pen today and they were free ranging all day from daylight to sundown pretty much. I have NO idea if anyone hid any in the yard anywhere. Honestly I was expecting 3, but 2 is not a shocker. Sometimes it seems when I let them free range for a week straight, on my off weeks, egg production seems to go down slightly. I have looked everywhere but I'm sure one day I am going to get an olfactory surprise of epic proportions as a long abandoned rotten egg, hidden months ago, lets loose.
