Would YOU personally recommend artificial lighting? Can it impose any health issues or stress for the flock?

I try to keep things as natural as possible. I won't be adding light. I do hear good arguments for doing it.

Yes, I try to keep things as natural as possible as well. When it gets to the point where we're losing money from not being able to sell, and having to buy eggs from the grocery store, that's where I draw the line. Eggs are really important -- we use them daily and try to sell as often as we can.

I have 8 yesterday from big girls .. I have lights in my coops on about 9 am off at 9 pm. Allot of mine stop due to molt in the late fall. But have different ages so always have some one laying

2 eggs today. I don’t want to buy eggs from the grocery store but we had to last winter. It wasn’t a lot but it was more than we wanted to buy being that we had a coop full of chickens. I’m not faulting anyone for using artificial lighting but I don’t. I let them have their little break.

So, I feel like my plan to have young layers to get us through the short days has failed. As y’all have seen, we got 2 eggs today. My young layers are 2 Black Stars and 3 EEs. One of today’s eggs was from a Wyandotte. I don’t even see 1 green egg every day right now. It was worth a shot.
On a positive note, I sold my last 4 pullets and 2 cockerels. That leaves me with 4 cockerels to sell.
