5 of 6 today. We’ve had quite a scare. Our Great Pyrenees dog got off her tie out line today and went straight for the chickens. Most of them have come back to the coop and are locked up for the night. The dog was just having a good ole time chasing them as she’s never had an opportunity before today. The rooster jumps her face but she just thinks it is a fun game. She has never bitten any of them including the rooster when he was literally jumping on her head. So I don’t think she hurt any of them. But I’m short one little red hen. Lucy. I think she is just too scared to come out of hiding and now it’s dark. I just pray she wanders back tomorrow. It’s not like we can’t get by without her. I’ve got eighteen chicks in the brooder. But I just hate to lose a hen to a predator.

Just a quick update. Little Lucy is evidently a smart little red hen. In all the commotion the back door to the house was left open for a while and she seized the opportunity to run in and hide! This morning we heard rustling in the back room/ utility room and found her coming out of hiding in a bucket. I escorted her out to the coop and she was just fine.

And it looks like 5 of 6 again today. Wow. I thought they’d be too traumatized to lay but I got 3 blue eggs and 2 brown. So one of the rir hasn’t layed. But that’s not bad considering what they went through yesterday. It was wild!
