I got a brown egg!!!! One of the old girls took pity on me.

I got 13 today! I have 20 in all- 2 roos, 12 8-month-old hens, 1 2-year-old leghorn, and 5 7 year+ hens that don't lay anymore. I'm happy!

12/18 good eggs

2 eggs froze despite my best efforts. Today's high was -35f (-37C). I have a heat lamp in the coop, checked for eggs every 1.5hrs AND have a pair of broody barn cats, but that wasn't enough to save those 2 eggs. Interesting observation: almost all of my frozen eggs this year have been green and blue, while few have been brown.

+35 sounds practically tropical! At -35 we have the wood stove burning at full blast around the clock AND the oil furnace is kicking in every half hour just to keep the house at a chilly 67. Supposed to drop down to -40 tonight.

Take a short walk outside for me tmrw and enjoy the beautiful weather!
