What age do yours age out at. This is my first flock. Planning to add 2 more at the end of next summer so they will be ready to lay as my girls turn 3.
I think my oldest EEs are about 4 years old. Some people have hens they say are 8 or 10 years old and still laying the occasional egg. But ours are not pets and I like to process them before they are completely useless for the pot; although some may say that at this age, they are. They still make good soup, dumplings, broth and bone broth. As they age they become more liable to diseases and I certainly have no use for sick chickens for the table. So 3 to 4 years is about the max for us, but everybody's different.

5 eggs today, those silkies are good little layers when they aren’t broody.

I have several lawn ornaments, ranging from 5 to 7 yrs old, I let them live out their lives I don’t/ can’t eat my chooks they are my pets. Luckily I have the space for lots of replacements 😊 - I just wish they would start laying! 26 and 23 weeks and still not laying.
