How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Aha, so they're back to tucking their eggs in those crepe myrtles again! Sneaky girls!

Well…I got an extra run for them a while back. We’ve been just using that during the week and letting them free range on the weekends. Saturday they usually lay in the nest box and by Sunday they realize they can go to the Crepe Myrtles. But two of them were so deep inside I couldn’t reach them by hand, so one got smashed, trying to get it out.

They all kept me company while I gardened today. I’m putting in a little plot to grow them some feed crops: barley, wheat, field peas, lentils, and oats for the spring, then cowpeas, millet, dent corn, sunflowers and amaranth for summer. Not growing a ton of anything, but if they like them and I’m capable enough to grow these crops, I’ll save seeds for a bigger feed plot next year

10 today! I think only two of my 8 older ladies are laying right now…is it normal for them to stop for this long? Thinking I may need to add 4 or 5 more this summer to cover the lull period next winter. We eat so many eggs…
