Wow, I am waaaay behind with my egg tallies! That dang ol' thing "real life" keeps getting in the way of my daily BYC indulgence. It's been a bit of a roller coaster lately in the egg-laying department - well, maybe one of the "little kid" coasters at the county fair.
My 8 girls hit a high of 7 on Wednesday, back down to 5 Thursday, 6 Friday, then all the brown-egg girls must've gone shopping or to the movies Saturday - only 3 eggs, from my ever-reliable Rainbow girls. (Guess they weren't invited to the day off, being the 3 lowest in the pecking order.) Today we're back to 5 - three big browns and both Eggers' greens.
I heard Martha's distinctive soprano egg song all morning, but she must've been cheering for the others - no blue egg today; she only misses one or 2 days/week. Later I saw her hunkered down in the favored nest box looking very serious ("Go away, I'm busy.") but when she emerged, no egg. It's almost as if she was grumbling to herself, "Dang it, c'mon! Where's my egg?" I expect it'll be there first thing tomorrow morning.
